Anchor Line

When attaching your boat to an anchor, boaters typically have three options: a rope, a chain or a combination of the two. Although it's not an exact science, there are several general rules of thumb to help determine how long and thick your anchor line should be to effectively hold your boat in place. Simply multiply the deepest expected depth of water by eight to determine your anchor line length and add 1/8 inches of rope for every nine feet of boat to determine the diameter. It is important to not drastically over or under size the amount of anchor line because it reduces its elasticity and will either not hold tight enough or potentially snap.
